NEW HURACÁN PERFORMANTE TAKES THE LAP RECORD AT NÜRBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE

The Lamborghini Huracán Performante has already proved its extraordinary capabilities ahead of its unveiling at Geneva Motor Show next week. On 5 October 2016, the Huracán Performante set a new production car lap record of 6:52.01 min on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

Following the day’s open sessions on the “Ring”, at 17.00 officials closed the track to other manufacturers. After official track checks this left just a 15-minute window for Lamborghini to make one attempt at the lap record with a production Huracán Performante, still in its development camouflage.

With Lamborghini test driver Marco Mapelli  behind the wheel, who also drove the Aventador SV to its Nürburgring sub seven-minute lap time in 2015, the Huracán Performante warmed up its tires and made its rolling start, fitted inside and out with onboard cameras and telemetry to record the car’s lap. The Lamborghini team of R&D engineers, technicians and drivers, together with Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member for Research & Development, watched the Performante disappear into the distance of the 20.6 km track.

In the sixth minute, the car was heard heading down the long straight with just three corners to go, and its audience counting down the seconds to watch the Huracán Performante pass over the line at 6:52.01 min.

“This was an incredible and emotional moment,” says Stefano Domenicali. “Together with Maurizio Reggiani we agreed during the car’s development that with the technical and performance prowess of the Huracán Performante, not only was a sub seven-minute lap at the Nordschleife possible, but the lap record too. We wanted to achieve the Nürburgring victory in advance of the Performante’s launch, which was a challenge in terms of weather and availability of the Nordschleife. Not only did we take the lap record, we took it by some seconds!

“To make this happen is something that every one of the R&D team who worked on this car can share in: it will forever be a defining moment in their careers,” concludes Stefano Domenicali. “I am so proud of everything achieved by Lamborghini people that day and extremely privileged to have witnessed it.”

The Huracán Performante features innovations in aerodynamics and lightweight engineering that, combined with its improved power plant, its four-wheel drive system, its Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale and a dedicated set-up, allows superior track performance to be maximized while delivering the most engaging and dynamic road drive.
Joining the Lamborghini development team at the Nürburgring were representatives from Pirelli, responsible for development of tires specifically for the Huracán Performante: the same Pirelli Trofeo R tires available on cars delivered to owners.

The Huracán Performante is revealed officially by Automobili Lamborghini at Geneva Motor Show on the first press day, 7 March 2017, 8.55 am at the Lamborghini stand. Follow the unveiling in Geneva at live.lamborghini and join the conversation with #HuracanPerformante.

Safariing in Comfort?

When I think of going on a safari, I imagine myself sitting in a beat up truck. The seats are hard and stiff, the floors are dirty, and the air conditioning is broken. Never did I think the words “Safari” and “Comfort” would go together until I saw the new 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet. If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy off road adventures through nature but the idea of having to suffer through uncomfortable and bumpy rides kept you from doing so, then look no further! The G650 is both capable of traversing rough terrain and providing all the comfort you will ever need.

With a twin-turbo V12 engine that can deliver a total of 630hp and 1000 Newton-meters of torque, portal axles with a ground clearance of 450 millimeters, and fully locking differentials, there are few things mother nature can throw at the G650 Landaulet that it can’t handle.

Sure, the G650 Looks and performs like a beast, but it has a much MUCH softer interior. The rear cabin of this machine is where it truly shines. The longer wheelbase provides significant leg room and when paired with the leather reclining seats, massage programs, pillows, and calf rests, you are sure to reach maximum relaxation. Need some extra privacy? The glass partition separating the front from the back can be raised and become opaque. Feel like getting some fresh air? With a touch of a button, the soft top roof can be lowered electronically, making it possible to stand up and enjoy the views. The back also features thermal cup holders, display monitors, hidden compartments, and more.

When I first saw the G650 Landaulet, I thought “It’s just another off-road vehicle” but boy was I wrong. With its off-roading capabilities and its lavish interior, the G650 Landaulet enters a class of its own. If you enjoy the outdoors but want to experience it in style and luxury, then this is the car for you.

New LP 580 – less is more!

Taking the all-wheel-drive saddle off the Huracán makes it better!

Automobili Lamborghini presents the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2: a two-wheel drive version of the Huracán coupe. Specifically designed and engineered for its rear-wheel drive set-up, the Huracán LP 580-2’s combines dynamic new looks with a package for an enhanced Lamborghini driving emotion.

The Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 continues the Lamborghini tradition of pure, visionary and technology-driven models,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The rear-wheel drive model fits perfectly into our Huracán family, appealing to those wanting an even more intense driving experience, or who currently drive other rear-wheel-drive marques and aspire to driving a Lamborghini. This is the purest expression of a Lamborghini to date, with class-leading technological refinements. It is a serious car for serious drivers: it is maximum driving fun.”

The Huracán LP 580-2 has been engineered and tuned for an essential driving experience. With its naturally aspirated V10 5.2 l engine sending 426 kW / 580 hp to the rear axle, the Huracán LP 580-2’s dry weight is just 1,389 kg, thus 33 kg lighter than the four-wheel-drive version.

Weight distribution is biased 40% at the front / 60% at the rear, reducing inertia on the front axle. An entirely new power management set-up, encompassing stiffer suspension, new steering set-up for more precise turning, and recalibrated stability and traction controls, connects the driver as directly as possible with the road. The selectable Lamborghini driving modes STRADA, SPORT and CORSA are tuned to provide oversteering characteristics, emphasizing authentic rear-wheel drive behavior.

The engaging, sporty fun of the two-wheel drive Huracán LP 580-2 perfectly complements the existing Huracán offering with the all-encompassing technology and experience of the four wheel-drive Huracán LP 610-4 and the lifestyle appeal of the Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder.

No longer a 602-horsepower tempest in an AWD teapot, the 571-horse Huracán LP 580-2 nearly maintains its stablemate’s 5.7 pounds-per-horsepower value (at 5.9) and finally allows the baby Lamborghini to kick its tail out through corners. Most important, however, these revisions supply the sort of fine front-wheel control and dynamic balance only a rear-drive car can deliver. The LP 580-2 has the best steering response, precision, and feel of any Lamborghini we’ve ever driven.

The LP 580-2 has the best steering response, precision, and feel of any Lamborghini we’ve ever driven.

The Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 is clearly different from its four wheel-drive stable mate. The front and rear of the Huracán LP 580-2 have been redesigned, accenting a young, fresh and more assertive look and highlighting the aeronautic styling.

Each design detail of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 celebrates the aesthetic of function; the result of a close collaboration between the Centro Stile designers and Lamborghini’s aerodynamic experts. The large, newly formed front air intakes specifically direct the cooling air and headwind to increase down pressure on the front axle. The spoiler lip at the rear works together with the rising diffuser in the underbody to improve airflow around the rear of the car – the Huracán does not require a movable rear spoiler.

The Huracán LP 580-2 sits on new, different-sized (front/rear) 19″ Kari rims, enhancing the car’s dynamic expression. Pirelli PZero tyres have been exclusively developed for the rear-wheel drive car. Steel brakes with aluminum brake disc calipers have been specially contoured for weight reduction and improved cooling.

Re-engineered for rear-wheel drive performance

The Huracán’s V10 5.2 liter naturally aspirated, mid-mounted engine has been re-engineered to provide a maximum 426 kW (580 hp) power output and 540 Nm of torque, with 75% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm.

As in the other Huracán models, the LP 580-2 features cylinder deactivation to improve engine efficiency. When full engine capacity is not required, five of the ten cylinders are temporarily deactivated by switching off one cylinder bank. When the driver accelerates, the system switches back instantaneously to ten-cylinder mode, while being virtually impossible to detect by the driver. This feature reduces fuel consumption to 11.9 l/100 km (combined circle) and CO2 to 278 g/km.

Weighing 1,389 kg dry, with a weight reduction of 33 kg over the Huracán LP 610-4 coupe, the Huracán LP 580-2 achieves a weight to power ratio of just 2.4 kg/hp. The LP 580-2 uses the Huracán’s hybridaluminum and carbon fiber chassis, contributing to the lower weight.

Every aspect of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 has been engineered for driving fun, allowing drivers to interpret the feedback from the car and connect with the road or track.

The ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management: ’soul’ in Italian) button on the steering wheel allows the driver to adopt different driving modes, recalibrated to suit the spirit of the rear-wheel drive model. STRADA, for daily use, provides a slight understeering feedback and is traction-oriented; SPORT, is for sporty and emotional driving fun with slight oversteering behavior; and CORSA, ensures maximum performance in track mode, providing a neutral steering behavior.

The LP 580-2 is available in the full range of Huracán external and internal colors and trims. In addition, through Lamborghini’s personalization program Ad Personam, the options for external and internal colors are limitless.

The Huracán LP 580-2 is fitted with the latest Lamborghini Infotainment System II, with a 12.3″ high resolution TFT instrument panel.

Previous Lamborghini rear-wheel drive models include the predecessor Gallardo LP 550-2. The Lamborghini Miura, Countach and Diablo in rear-wheel drive variants were perfect examples of the fun-to-drive concept. The rear-wheel drive Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo launched in 2014, races at tracks worldwide in this year’s three Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe, Asia and USA.
